A form of gentle, safe massage that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body. Fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from the tissues. Some health conditions can cause lymph fluid to build up. Lymphatic drainage massages can benefit people with lymphedema, fibromyalgia, and other conditions.
Regular massages target the muscles, whereas lymphatic drainage massages address the skin in order to improve the efficiency of the lymphatic system. “A lymphatic drainage massage is different than getting a regular massage in the sense that long, rhythmic, wave-like strokes are used to open and then shut the lymphatics.
Manual Lymph Massage helps to move the fluid by gently pumping it back into the lymph vessels, reducing the swelling, retention of fluids and pain after the surgery. Many types of surgery can heal faster with less swelling when Lymphatic Drainage Massage is utilized. This also leads to less pain, reduced scar tissue formation and faster healing overall.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage is beneficial for: Orthopedic surgery Plastic and/or reconstructive surgery (Breast augmentation, reduction, liposuction, facial reconstruction etc.) Dental surgery Gynecological surgery Abdominal surgery Caesarean surgery Post-mastectomy surgery Head/neck/ Ear, nose and throat surgery Ophthalmological surgery (Eyes) Joint replacement surgery Post physical trauma events Manual lymph drainage massage is also very effective in a variety of autoimmune disorders where regular massage can be contraindicated, such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis and scleroderma.
Swedish massage is one of the most commonly offered massage techniques. It’s sometimes called a classic massage. The technique aims to promote relaxation by releasing muscle tension. Swedish massage is gentler than deep tissue massage and better suited for people interested in relaxation and tension relief. This massage style utilizes long, flowing strokes. Swedish massage is designed to increase circulation and blood flow.
This style of massage is designed to create balance among the mind, body, and spirit, and help the body heal itself. It’s sometimes referred to as an “oil massage” because it typically incorporates warm herb essential oils, as well as time-honored and non-traditional strokes and kneading that suit an individual’s needs.
A type of massage therapy to help you relax and ease tense muscles further. During a hot stone massage, smooth, flat, heated stones are placed on specific parts of your body. The stones are usually made of basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat.
A therapeutic modality known as Craniosacral Massage (CSM) is used to release tension and relieve pain and dysfunction. Using a soft touch, generally no greater than the weight of a nickel, licensed massage practitioners who are trained in this modality use CSM to release restrictions in the soft tissues around the base of the skull and other regions of the head by gently feeling various locations to test for the ease of motion and rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid pulsing around the brain and spinal cord. Soft-touch techniques are then used to release restrictions in any tissues influencing the craniosacral system.
Reiki is a Japanese method of massage to reduce stress and promote healing. It helps people to relax and heal from within. Reiki is done by laying hands on the person and changing the flow of energy.
Shiatsu is a type of massage therapy that was primarily developed in Japan. With its name derived from the Japanese term for "finger pressure," it involves applying pressure to specific points on the body, moving from one point to another in a rhythmic sequence.
Bowen therapy, also known as the Bowen technique or Bowenwork, uses gentle rolling hand movements to stretch the fascia and reduce the pain response. The method may be used to treat the following ailments: frozen shoulder, headaches and migraine attacks, back pain, neck pain, and knee injuries.
It might also be done to control pain due to: respiratory conditions, like asthma, gastrointestinal disorders, like irritable bowel syndrome, and cancer treatments.
Additionally, some people use Bowen therapy to help with: stress, fatigue, depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, flexibility, and motor function.
The Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) method of muscle lengthening and fascial release is a type of Athletic Stretching Technique that provides effective, dynamic, facilitated stretching of major muscle groups, but more importantly, AIS provides functional and physiological restoration of superficial and deep fascial planes.
Cupping involves placing warmed glass cups on the skin to create suction. Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair.
